A Reason to Celebrate

As 2007 disappears into the horizon, every celebrates to usher in 2008. Every road towards major shopping centres like 1 Utama, The Curve, Sunway Pyramid, and KL's golden triangle is filled to the brim with people queuing up for the big countdown. I start to ask the question, ask why people celebrate. Is it becoming too excessive? Extravagant? Perhaps downright taking advantage to mass profit?

1. People go with the flow
People just tend to follow where-ever their group of friends does. It's all about being adaptable, being predictable, being safely in the in-group. The problem with this is everyone else is doing the same thing.

2. People want to commemorate
People want to make every moment count. They celebrate even at the smallest opportunity. They want their moments in life to be labeled with enjoyment and excitement.

3. It's all about relationships
We do it because we want to meet up with each other. We genuinely want to know more about each other and just have a good time, no strings attached. I just wished everyone would celebrate because of this.

Happy 2008. Let's do this together!
